BAFTA TV Awards 2021: Diversity stars Ashley and Jordan Banjo look dapper on red carpet

Published

Ashley Banjo and his brother Jordan looked dapper as they attended the British Academy Television Awards on Sunday.

The Diversity stars walked the star-studded red carpet at Television Centre in White City ahead of the ceremony.

The brothers took home the award for Must See TV Moment for Diversity’s Black Lives Matter-inspired dance routine on Britain’s Got Talent in September.

Ashley, 32, cut a suave figure as he donned a black blazer with matching trousers which he paired with a black shirt.

Jordan, 28, opted for a navy blazer for the ceremony which he wore with black trousers and a crisp white shirt.

Posing alongside his brother, the dancer completed his look with a black bow tie.

There was fury when Diversity’s controversial dance routine was shortlisted for a BAFTA after being nominated by ITV despite being the second most complained-about TV moment for a decade.

Officials were accused of pursuing a ‘woke, political agenda’ by considering the dance for the Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment Award, where it will now go to a public vote alongside five other scenes.

Led by Ashley, Diversity opened their performance by reciting a viral poem The Great Realisation by the singer Tomfoolery, about the BLM movement and police brutality.

During their performance, the group also narrated the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on his neck in Minneapolis on May 25 for nearly nine minutes.

The flood of complaints put the controversial routine just steps behind Celebrity Big Brother’s ‘punchgate’ which received 25,237 objections in 2018, after Roxanne Pallett falsely accused Ryan Thomas of hitting her.

Ashley said on The Jonathan Ross Show that he is ‘proud’ of the routine after its BAFTA nomination.

He said: ‘It was controversial, made a lot of people unhappy, but it also made a lot of people stand up and be proud. It made a lot of conversations happen that needed to happen.

‘To potentially win a Bafta for something that was controversial when it shouldn’t have been, it will be something that stays with me for the rest of my life.’

Speaking of the controversy, the doting father added: ‘We thought it would ruffle a few feathers, but not be one of the most complained about moments of the decade.

‘The reaction, even still to this day, the online reaction I get on a daily basis is shocking, actually. But I’d do it 100 times over.’

Amy Winehouse’s best friend says he was the ‘only one who knew what she was really going through’

Amy Winehouse’s childhood best friend Tyler James has spoken about the singer’s final days on the tenth anniversary of her death from alcohol poisoning aged 27.

On Monday, Tyler told Nine’s Today show he was the ‘only person who knew what she was really going through’.

‘I lived with Amy most of her adult life and I’m the only person who knows what it was really like to be her,’ he said.

Amy Winehouse’s tragic last days: Singer’s best friend Tyler James has said he’s the ‘only one who knew what she was really going through’ on the 10-year anniversary of her death

‘When I meet Amy, she was 13 and I was 12, and I had this instinct straight away that I needed to look after her.’

Tyler also discussed Amy’s tragic last days and said all ‘she ever wanted was to be sober’.

‘When Amy passed away, I got this feeling that people thought it was inevitable [but] Amy didn’t take drugs for the last three years of her life,’ he said.

Close: On Monday, Tyler told Nine’s Today show ‘I lived with Amy most of her adult life and I’m the only person who knows what it was really like to be her’

‘She would be sober for six weeks and she would relapse for three or four days. Every time she would get back onto being sober again and that’s what she wanted. I don’t think people realise that.’

Tyler’s new book My Amy tells the story of the icon’s troubled life after the pair met at London’s Sylvia Young Theatre School when they were both teenagers.

Amy soared to fame upon the release of Frank in 2003, as she gained both critical and commercial success with the debut as her jazz-inspired vocals won fans all over before her second album Back To Black’s introduction three years later.

‘Amy didn’t take drugs for the last three years of her life’: Tyler also discussed Amy’s tragic last days and said all ‘she ever wanted was to be sober’

In a heartbreaking turn of fate, the London-born icon’s dazzling career was plighted by her demons after she fell into the clutches of drink and drug addiction.

As she ascended higher on the fame ladder she discovered her demons – in drink, drugs and also eating disorders.

In 2011, an inquest gave a verdict of misadventure after finding that she had 416mg of alcohol per decilitre in her blood.

This is more than five times the legal drink-drive limit and enough to cause her to become comatose and depress her respiratory system.

Salma Hayek revealed she finds peace by finding time to meditate with her beloved Southern white-faced owl named Kering, who she rescued just two years ago.

While the Like A Boss star, 54, originally gifted the bird to her husband François-Henri Pinault for Valentine’s Day, her bond with their family pet has only grown.

While speaking about her favorite self-care rituals and how to combat stress, she surprised fans by explaining she meditates with her ‘owl very, very often.’

Unique: Salma Hayek revealed she finds peace by finding time to meditate with her beloved Southern white-faced owl named Kering, who she rescued just two years ago

‘The minute I go deep into meditation, she stays super still,’ she told People in a new interview, released Monday.

Fans of the actress, who has been very busy promoting her new film Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, regularly shares photos with Kering sitting on her head or shoulders.

They also share meals, watch television on Hayek’s iPad, and sleeps in her room when her ‘husband is not in town.’

Funny: While speaking about her favorite self-care rituals and how to combat stress, she surprised fans by explaining she meditates with her ‘owl very, very often’

During a video interview for People’s 2021 Beautiful Issue, Hayek said she named Kering after her husband’s company because ‘their symbol’ is ‘of the owl.’

Even though the owl was a present for her man, she said he told her: ‘Thank you, but I know this is your own present for yourself.’

‘Just being in the same room [with her], there’s an energy to it, and it is mesmerizing,’ she added.

‘The minute I go deep into meditation, she stays super still,’ she told People in a new interview, released Monday

‘Sometimes, when she is really close to me, I can feel her rubbing against me, which is really nice. And I feel so blessed,’ Hayek said.

The mother-of-one has previously introduced her social media followers to her love of animals with videos of her dogs and two parrots.

The animal lover has never been shy about expressing her fondness for adopting unsheltered pets.

‘Sometimes, when she is really close to me, I can feel her rubbing against me, which is really nice. And I feel so blessed,’ Hayek said

‘I have five horses, four alpacas, one cat, eight dogs, one hamster, five parrots, two fish, I’m sure I’m forgetting something!’ Salma said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in October 2013.

‘You know this is like the Oscars you forgetting someone. Oh I forgot! I have bunny rabbits, I have turkeys, 20 chickens, same with the rabbits be careful just buy one.’

She added, ‘I don’t know something is in the air at my ranch, animals keep reproducing!’
