Everton next manager: Galtier & Potter odds SLASHED for Toffees job, Nuno still favourite after Crystal Palace snub

EVERTON are still searching for their next managerial appointment.

The Toffees, led by majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, are on the hunt for their sixth manager in five years after the sudden departure of Carlo Ancelotti.

And there’s been no shortage of activity in the betting market with several candidates drifting and shortening over the past few days.

More than 40 candidates were put forward for the position.

But that list has been whittled down with former Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo the current favourite.

The 47-year-old had looked out of the running after lengthy discussions with Crystal Palace.

However, he’s back in contention at odds of 17/10 having failed to reach an agreement with Eagles chiefs over contracts for his sizeable backroom staff.

There’s been plenty of support for Brighton’s Graham Potter, who is now available at 10/3 having been offered at 16/1 last week.

  • Nuno Espirito Santo – 17/10
  • Graham Potter – 10/3 – Was 16/1
  • Duncan Ferguson – 5/1 – Was 11/1

  • Eddie Howe – 6/1
  • David Moyes – 7/1
  • Rafael Benitez – 9/1
  • Frank Lampard – 14/1
  • Paulo Fonseca – 14/1

The Seagulls boss is under consideration at Goodison Park though compensation could be an issue with his contract running until June 2025.

Assistant manager Duncan Ferguson comes next at 5s.

SunSport understand that Big Dunc rejected the opportunity to follow Ancelotti to Real Madrid in favour of making the step up on Merseyside.

Another name who’s seen heavy support in the betting market is former Lille boss Christophe Galtier, who’s shortened markedly from 20/1 to 11/2.

The Frenchman handed in his notice having guided the club to the Ligue 1 title and is someone the Goodison hierarchy are considering.

Former Lille sporting director Luis Campos also sent tongues wagging by revealing that Galtier would be the ideal candidate for Everton.

Campos told Sky Sports: “Christophe has all the qualities to coach in England, technically he is very astute and is extremely detailed in his planning when preparing a team.

“He likes a 4-4-2 system, which would fit with the Premier League and he is a fantastic motivator in the dressing room.

“He likes to build a side with quality and youth, he is someone that can develop a team ethic, and he is also a fantastic human being.”

Eddie Howe and David Moyes are available at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively with Rafa Benitez in behind at 9s.

Frank Lampard and Paulo Fonseca complete the list at 14s with Betfair.

What do the Olympic rings represent?

What do the Olympic rings represent?

The five interlocking multicoloured rings were first presented in 1913 and designed by French aristocrat Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin.

The rings made their first appearance at the 1920 Games in Antwerp, Belgium, with the colours said to represent the national flags of competing nations.

According to Coubertin, “these five rings represent the five parts of the world now won over to the cause of olympism and ready to accept its fecund rivalries.

What is more, the six colors thus combined reproduce those of all nations without exception.

Coubertin was said to have been inspired to include the rings because of his time as president of the French sports-governing body, the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques (USFSA), and to represent the five continents.

According to the Olympic charter, the Olympic symbol “expresses the activity of the Olympic Movement and represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games.”

How many countries and continents compete in the Olympics?

There are currently 206 National Olympic Committees, spread out over five continents across the globe and every nation is represented.

Each National Olympic Committee represents a competing nation at the Games, such as the British Virgin Islands, Bhutan, American Samoa, Comoros and Cape Verde.

How many athletes compete in the Olympic Games?

This number tends to differ each year, but at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, 11, 237 athletes took part.

This included 6,178 men and 5,059 women.

Nearly 3,000 athletes competed at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, consisting of 1,664 men and 1,169 women.
