Man Utd thrashing out Jadon Sancho personal terms and told they can land Dortmund star for cut-price £82m transfer fee

MANCHESTER UNITED are moving a step closer to signing Jadon Sancho after reportedly beginning talks over personal terms.

The Red Devils have reignited their interest in the Borussia Dortmund winger after failing to land him last summer.

The Bundesliga club set their asking price at £108million a year ago forcing United to walk away from the deal empty handed.

But Dortmund are now ready to cash in on the 21-year-old for a cut-price £82m, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

He also adds how United club chiefs have started negotiations with the player’s representatives.

Writing on Twitter, Romano said: “Man United are in contact with Sancho’s camp on personal terms but still no official bid. BVB want €95m (£82m).”

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a new right winger to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season.

Personal terms between player and club shouldn’t be too much of an issue with Sancho eager to make the switch back to England.

Sporting director Michael Zorc further conceded Sancho is likely to leave Dortmund with a gentleman’s agreement in place from last season.

He said: “We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions.

“He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling.”

Sancho will be hoping to show his potential on the big stage at the Euros when it gets underway on Friday.

England take on Croatia on Sunday but boss Gareth Southgate is dropping no hints on whether Sancho is likely to start or not.

Ronaldo will be Portugal’s star man again but it’s all about teamwork if they want more Euros glory

Published

PORTUGAL is full of massive individual talents – but let’s hope that the team’s ability is even greater than the sum of its parts.

Cristiano Ronaldo will once again be the big star, even at 36, with his enormous quality meaning that the team revolves around him.

Carlos Carvalhal is in charge at Braga and used to coach at Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday[/caption]

His team-mates have to accept that it is worth foregoing some teamwork from Ronaldo because they know that he is capable of making the difference at any moment.

That has been the case in the past – such as that amazing hat-trick against Spain at the 2018 World Cup – and will be once again at this tournament.

Ronaldo will offer little on the defensive side but contribute everything in the final third, so he is a luxury worth having.

But beyond the Juventus striker and the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, there are some emerging stars in Portuguese football too.

The latest example is Pote, a young midfielder who played in behind the striker for title-winning Sporting Lisbon and finished top-scorer in the Primeira Liga.

Let’s see if he’s given the opportunity to demonstrate his great talent. He’s a rebellious and bold young player who’s not afraid of any opponent or atmosphere.

I know three members of the squad really well because they played for me in the past. I had Rui Patrício and João Moutinho at Sporting and Renato Sanches at Swansea.

Rui Patrício holds the all-time record for international caps won by a Portuguese goalkeeper so is very experienced and assured.

He rarely makes big mistakes and there’s no question that he’s a big asset to the national team.

Ronaldo will hope to lead them to more glory after Euro 2016 success[/caption]

His excellent performances at Wolves have confirmed just how reliable the best goalkeeper of the decade really is.

João Moutinho is a machine! I was once asked to give my thoughts about him and I remember saying, “He plays with an antenna on his head”.

He understands the game, he plays and gets others playing, he covers for players who are out of position and is a tireless worker for the team.

He’s already in second place in the all-time appearance records for the national team, ahead of Luís Figo and second only to Ronaldo.

Having played at three European Championships and two World Cups, this will likely be his last major tournament.

Renato Sanches is an explosive box-to-box midfielder who regained his best form in France with surprise Ligue 1 champions Lille.

A player who plays with great intensity at both ends of the pitch, the French league has proved the ideal platform for him to prove his ability.

When there are a lot of transitions in the game is when we will see the best of Renato.

Portugal are in Group F with Hungary, Germany and France. It’s going to be very difficult and very tight.

In theory, Hungary will be the team that gets left behind and the other three sides will battle for the top two spots.

Portugal have historically struggled against what, on paper, are weaker teams and excel against stronger opponents.

This is why the first game, against Hungary on Tuesday, is so important and the team simply cannot afford to drop any points.

I think that in this match the coach Fernando Santos will take risks to win the game and go with three attacking players up top who have an eye for goal.

He will set up with a four-man defence and three midfielders, two of whom are more attacking players.

He will also go with two attacking wing-backs who will have the flanks to themselves with the wingers playing more on the inside.

In the other two games, against France and Germany, I expect to see Portugal try to control the game from midfield with two holding midfielders, a more attack-minded midfielder (possibly Bruno Fernandes) and a winger who is a good all-round midfielder, such as Bernardo Silva.

This will allow Santos’s men to dominate the play in the middle third and create good attacking play to provide Ronaldo with the best supply, whilst not giving the opposition the time to launch counter-attacks.

We attack together, and we are a unit when we lose the ball.

Portugal are the defending Euro champions. The team has some really talented players, a very able and experienced coach as well as huge desire and belief to successfully defend their crown.

Everything in the group will come down to beating the big boys, France and Germany, and not slipping up against Hungary, as sometimes can happen.

We hope to see Portugal produce some great football. We want to see technical, creative football but good discipline at the same time.

That is what they showed five years ago and it took them all the way.

The PSG star was so angry with the Champions League winner’s comments after the friendly with Bulgaria that he reportedly wanted to call a press conference to explain his point of view.

And things didn’t turn out much better for France’s other striker Karim Benzema, who went off injured.

Meanwhile Denmark and Romania are set to announce an increase in the number of fans that can attend their Euro 2020 games – to 65 and 50 per cent respectively.

What are the lyrics to Hungary’s national anthem Himnusz?

Published

WHAT they lack in footballing prowess, Hungary certainly makes up for with its national anthem – the Himnusz.

The 1989 hymn is TWICE the length of God Save the Queen and quite a mouthful.

What are the lyrics to Himnusz

Verse 1
Isten, áldd meg a magyart
Jó kedvvel, bőséggel,
Nyújts feléje védő kart,
Ha küzd ellenséggel;
Bal sors akit régen tép,
Hozz rá víg esztendőt,
Megbűnhődte már e nép
A múltat s jövendőt!

Verse 2
Őseinket felhozád
Kárpát szent bércére,
Általad nyert szép hazát
Bendegúznak vére.
S merre zúgnak habjai
Tiszának, Dunának,
Árpád hős magzatjai
Felvirágozának.

Verse 3
Értünk Kunság mezein
Ért kalászt lengettél,
Tokaj szőlővesszein
Nektárt csepegtettél.
Zászlónk gyakran plántálád
Vad török sáncára,
S nyögte Mátyás bús hadát
Bécsnek büszke vára.

Verse 4
Hajh, de bűneink miatt
Gyúlt harag kebledben,
S elsújtád villámidat
Dörgő fellegedben,
Most rabló mongol nyilát
Zúgattad felettünk,
Majd töröktől rabigát
Vállainkra vettünk.

Verse 5
Hányszor zengett ajkain
Ozmán vad népének
Vert hadunk csonthalmain
Győzedelmi ének!
Hányszor támadt tenfiad
Szép hazám, kebledre,
S lettél magzatod miatt
Magzatod hamvvedre!

Verse 6
Bújt az üldözött, s felé
Kard nyúlt barlangjában,
Szerte nézett s nem lelé
Honját a hazában,
Bércre hág és völgybe száll,
Bú s kétség mellette,
Vérözön lábainál,
S lángtenger fölette.

Verse 7
Vár állott, most kőhalom,
Kedv s öröm röpkedtek,
Halálhörgés, siralom
Zajlik már helyettek.
S ah, szabadság nem virúl
A holtnak véréből,
Kínzó rabság könnye hull
Árvánk hő szeméből!

Verse 8
Szánd meg Isten a magyart
Kit vészek hányának,
Nyújts feléje védő kart
Tengerén kínjának.
Bal sors akit régen tép,
Hozz rá víg esztendőt,
Megbűnhődte már e nép
A múltat s jövendőt!

What are the lyrics in English?

Verse 1
O God, bless the nation of Hungary
With your grace and bounty
Extend over it your guarding arm
During strife with its enemies
Long torn by ill fate
Bring upon it a time of relief
This nation has suffered for all sins
Of the past and of the future!

Verse 2
You brought our ancestors up
Over the Carpathians’ holy peaks
By You was won a beautiful homeland
For Bendeguz’s sons
And wherever flow the rivers of
The Tisza and the Danube
Árpád our hero’s descendants
Will root and bloom.

Verse 3
For us on the plains of the Kuns
You ripened the wheat
In the grape fields of Tokaj
You dripped sweet nectar
Our flag you often planted
On the wild Turk’s earthworks
And under Mátyás’ grave army whimpered
Vienna’s “proud fort.”

Verse 4
Ah, but for our sins
Anger gathered in Your bosom
And You struck with Your lightning
From Your thundering clouds
Now the plundering Mongols’ arrows
You swarmed over us
Then the Turks’ slave yoke
We took upon our shoulders.

Verse 5
How often came from the mouths
Of Osman’s barbarian nation
Over the corpses of our defeated army
A victory song!
How often did your own son aggress
My homeland, upon your breast,
And you became because of your own sons
Your own sons’ funeral urn!

Verse 6
The fugitive hid, and towards him
The sword reached into his cave
Looking everywhere he could not find
His home in his homeland
Climbs the mountain, descends the valley
Sadness and despair his companions
Sea of blood beneath his feet
Ocean of flame above.

Verse 7
Castle stood, now a heap of stones
Happiness and joy fluttered,
Groans of death, weeping
Now sound in their place.
And Ah! Freedom does not bloom
From the blood of the dead,
Torturous slavery’s tears fall
From the burning eyes of the orphans!

Verse 8
Pity, O Lord, the Hungarians
Who are tossed by waves of danger
Extend over it your guarding arm
On the sea of its misery
Long torn by ill fate
Bring upon it a time of relief
They who have suffered for all sins
Of the past and of the future!
