Meghan and Harry’s baby news: Lisa Wilkinson points out a telling detail in royal family’s reactions

Published

on

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have plunged the Royal Family into crisis in recent months following their explosive sit-down with Oprah Winfrey.

And while royal enthusiasts remain hopeful the Windsors will one day make amends, a telling clue in the family’s response to the Sussexes’ baby news suggests a reconciliation isn’t on the cards.

Australian TV presenter Lisa Wilkinson pointed out on Monday that certain royals phrased their congratulatory messages to Harry and Meghan differently.

Clue: Lisa Wilkinson pointed out on Monday that certain royals phrased their congratulatory messages to Harry and Meghan differently, after the Sussexes announced the birth of their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on Sunday

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on Friday in California. They announced the news on Sunday.

Lisa observed that the Cambridges didn’t use Harry and Meghan’s royal titles when acknowledging Lilibet’s birth, and neither did Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Harry’s grandmother The Queen did refer to their titles, however.

This omission comes amid a wider discussion about whether or not the Sussexes should relinquish their titles in light of their relentless criticism of the Royal Family.

‘Can’t help noticing that neither the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, nor Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, used Harry and Meghan’s royal titles in the messages of congrats on the birth of baby Lilibet,’ The Project host, 61, tweeted.

She added: ‘The Queen – after whom the baby is named – was the only one that did.’

Omitting Harry and Meghan’s royal titles could be interpreted as a subtle hint they are no longer considered part of the Royal Family.

‘Can’t help noticing’: Lisa tweeted that the Cambridges didn’t use Harry and Meghan’s royal titles when acknowledging Lilibet’s birth, and neither did Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Harry’s grandmother The Queen did refer to their titles, however

Indeed, Prince William and Kate Middleton referred to the Sussexes by their first names in an official congratulations message on Instagram.

They wrote: ‘We are all delighted by he happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.’

Harry’s father, Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles, similarly failed to use the Sussexes’ royal titles in their message.

‘Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie on the arrival of baby Lilibet Diana,’ they wrote on social media.

The Queen, however, did refer to the couple as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in her official statement, perhaps subtly indicating their relationship remains intact.

No royal title: Harry’s father Prince Charles and wife Camilla Parker-Bowles similarly failed to use the Sussex’s royal titles in their congratulatory message

Indeed, in the Sussexes’ recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry spoke of his respect for his grandmother.

Meghan also said: ‘The Queen… has always been wonderful to me.’

The Duke and Duchess Sussex plunged the royal family into crisis with the televised interview in March, when they accused an unnamed royal of making a racist remark about their son Archie’s skin tone and claimed Harry’s family failed to help Meghan when she was suicidal.

Last month, Harry also suggested in the Apple TV+ docuseries The Me You Don’t See that his father had allowed his children to ‘suffer’ when it came to the media because of his own negative experience growing up in the Royal Family.

Sweet family nickname for Queen that inspired Harry and Meghan’s name for their baby daughter

Lilibet – the Queen’s family nickname – was first used when Princess Elizabeth was just a toddler and unable to pronounce her own name properly.

Her grandfather King George V would affectionately call her ‘Lilibet’, imitating her own attempts to say Elizabeth.

The sweet nickname stuck and she became Lilibet to her family from then on.

The Duke of Edinburgh also referred to his wife as Lilibet, writing to his mother in law after their wedding: ‘Lilibet is the only ‘thing’ in the world which is absolutely real to me.’

Harry and Meghan’s new baby daughter – the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild – will be known as Lili. A variation on Lily, the flower is often seen to symbolise purity, commitment, rebirth and fertility.

Lili’s middle name Diana honours Harry’s later mother Diana, Princess of Wales. It is no surprise the couple chose to pay tribute to Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997 when Harry was just 12.

Lili has been born almost a month before the princess would have celebrated her 60th birthday on July 1. Her cousin Princess Charlotte also has Diana as one of her middle names, as well as Elizabeth. She is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Harry and the Duke of Cambridge are due to unveil a statue of their mother at Kensington Palace on her birthday, but the arrangements have yet to be confirmed, amid a long-reported rift between the brothers.

The Sussexes’ tribute to the Queen is likely to be seen as an olive branch to the monarch and the rest of the family.

Harry and Meghan plunged the Windsors into crisis with their Oprah Winfrey interview in March when they accused an unnamed royal of making a racist remark about their son Archie’s skin tone before he was born.

They also said the institution failed to help Meghan when she was suicidal. But during the televised interview with Winfrey, the Sussexes lauded the Queen.

Harry spoke of his respect for his grandmother, while Meghan said: ‘The Queen… has always been wonderful to me.’

Paul Weller, 63, is set to become a grandfather as his daughter Leah is pregnant.

Speaking to The Daily Mail’s Richard Eden, Leah, 29, said she and husband Tomo Kurata, 31, were ‘over the moon’ as they prepare to become first-time parents.

The model also took to Instagram to share a picture of her burgeoning baby bump in a topless photoshoot.

Glowing: Paul Weller’s daughter Leah has revealed that she and husband Tomo Kurata, 31, are ‘over the moon’ as they prepare to become first-time parents

Leah looked radiant in the shot as she posed with one hand on her bump while snuggled up to her husband.

Fellow model Tom also went shirtless as he wrapped his hands around his wife and planted a tender kiss on her forehead.

Leah and Tom wed in September 2018 at Goodwood House in West Sussex, with animal rights activist Leah opting for a vegan wedding cake at the reception.

He’s the ‘Modgrandfather’! Leah’s pregnancy means Paul is set to become a grandfather for the first time. The rocker has eight children of his own (pictured in May)

Leah is the eldest of Paul’s eight children, and The Jam frontman shares her and 28-year-old Natt, with British soul singer Dee C. Lee.

Dee originally performed as a backing singer with the late George Michael’s Wham! before joining The Style Council, Paul’s second band, in 1983.

The couple married in 1987 but their relationship ended in 1998.

Paul, who’s known as the Modfather, went on to have a 24-year-old daughter, Dylan, from a fleeting romance with a make-up artist.

He welcomed two more children Jesamine, 20, and Stevie Mac, 16, during his 13-year relationship to Samantha Stock.

The partnership ended when he met Hannah in 2008, when she was 23, and she quickly moved into his Maida Vale home.

The couple went on to welcome twin boys Bowie and John Paul, now nine, named after David Bowie and The Beatles legends John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney.

In 2017 Paul welcomed his eighth child at the age of 59, a baby girl named Nova.

The child is named after one of the tracks that appears on his 13th album, A Kind Revolution.

Paul, who found fame in post punk band The Jam, joins rock peers Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Rod Stewart by having a total of eight children in his brood.

Talking to The Mirror in 2012, he opened up about being a father, as well as his decision to have children in his fifties.

‘You get certain people who go “Ooh, seven children with four women” and all that,’ he said. ‘But I don’t care, man. I love all my kids. They’re all special and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

‘I don’t mean that in a morbid way but, because of the age difference between me and my wife, I really want to leave part of me with her, so there’s that as well.’

Hannah Brown after starring on The Bachelorette was looking for love again Monday on the season premiere of The Celebrity Dating Game on ABC.

The 26-year-old reality star was the first mystery contestant in the revival featuring Zooey Deschanel, 41, and Michael Bolton, 61, as hosts.

Hannah’s questions gathered some interesting responses from her three male suitors.

She’s back: Hannah Brown after starring on The Bachelorette was looking for love again Monday on the season premiere of The Celebrity Dating Game on ABC

When she asked what was a fun romantic activity they could do at home, Bachelor Number 2, Vishal Kal, a software engineer, suggested that they could play video games, which Hannah was not into.

‘Video games?’ she said. ‘That’s not what I was thinking.’

Her bachelor number 1, Evan Faunce, a model and actor, suggested ‘arts and crafts’, but it was bachelor number 3, Jack Magness, a wall street investor, who won her over with his Netflix and chill idea for a date.

He said he envisioned them putting on sweats, ordering pizza, drinking wine and watching a movie on Netflix.

First up: The 26-year-old reality star was the first mystery contestant in the revival of the TV dating show

The host: Zooey Deschanel hosted the show along with Michael Bolton

‘You had me at pizza,’ said Hannah.

‘He had me at sweats,’ Zooey added.

After several rounds of questions, Hannah asked the men to guess her identity.

Quiz time: Evan Faunce, Vishal Kal and Jake Magness were quizzed by Hannah

Evan, Bachelor 1, said he thought she was Blake Lively. Vishal, Bachelor 2, guessed Demi Lovato and Jack, Bachelor 3, said ‘you are obviously country so I am going to go with Taylor Swift.’

‘You could be right and you could be very wrong,’ said Zooey.

When Hannah asked Jack [Bachelor 3] if he was an ocean what kind of ocean would he be. He told her he would start calm, then go rough at the climax, and then back to gentle.

Good question: When Hannah asked Jack [Bachelor 3] if he was an ocean what kind of ocean would he be. He told her he would start calm, then go rough at the climax, and then back to gentle.

Michael seemed confused.

‘Did I miss something ?’ he asked. ‘I thought I just went into another dimension. I just wanted to make sure I’m still here.’

Hannah ultimately picked Jake to go on a date with her.

Another dimension: ‘Did I miss something ?’ Michael asked. ‘I thought I just went into another dimension. I just wanted to make sure I’m still here’

The Alabama native was linked romantically in January to model Adam Woolard and she made it Instagram official in February with a Valentine’s Day tribute.

Zooey served as the show’s host and head matchmaker, while singer Michael sat at a piano and sang out clues to help the contestant guess the mystery celebrity.

The one-hour season premiere also featured Nicole Byer, 34, testing her three suitors by asking them how they would get her hot if she was a frozen pizza.

Teaming up: Zooey served as the show’s host and head matchmaker, while singer Michael sat at a piano and sang out clues to help the contestant guess the mystery celebrity

Nicole’s contestants were just as engaging and they also couldn’t figure out who she was and guessed Sarah Silverman, Tiffany Haddish, and Taylor Tomlinson.

Michael tried to give them clues by singing a song to the tune of Bette Midler’s song Wind Beneath My Wings.

‘You were on Brooklyn 99’ sang Michael Bolton. ‘You know I would never break the girl code.’

Second  celebrity: The one-hour season premiere also featured Nicole Byer, 34, testing her three suitors by asking them how they would get her hot if she was a frozen pizza

Nicole’s suitors Bachelor Number 1, Walter Ford, a podcast host; Bachelor Number 2, Nate Shanklin, a recruiter for DOJ; and Bachelor Number 3, Stephan Lathan, a photographer, still had no idea who their mystery celebrity contestant was.

She asked Walter [Bachelor Number 1] if they had 10 kids what would he name them and he started to run out of names on child six telling her he would call the others ‘a Mac book computer, a baby Bently truck and Smiley.’

‘You can’t think of names for children?’ Nicole asked.

‘Walter, I’m learning so much about you,’ she said.

The Celebrity Dating Game will return next week on ABC.

No clue: Nicole’s suitors Bachelor Number 1, Walter Ford, a podcast host; Bachelor Number 2, Nate Shanklin, a recruiter for DOJ; and Bachelor Number 3, Stephan Lathan, a photographer, still had no idea who their mystery celebrity contestant was

Married At First Sight star Heidi Latcham sure showed ‘ex-husband’ Mike Gunner exactly what he’s missing on Sunday.

The 41-year-old put on an eye-popping display as she stripped off into a tiny black bikini while in a bathtub.

Radio presenter Heidi shared a racy photo of herself on Instagram while relaxing on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

‘Mike will be kicking himself right now!’ On Sunday, Married At First Sight’s Heidi Latcham showcased her eye-popping cleavage as she stripped down to a skimpy black bikini in the bathtub

‘Dirty Dancing, meditation and baths,’ Heidi captioned the post, also sharing a video of the screen as she watched the hit film Dirty Dancing.

Her loyal followers were quick to comment underneath, with one writing: ‘Wow!! Mick should be kicking himself right about now lol,’ presumably referring to Heidi’s ex Mike.

Back in March, Mike admitted that some comments he made at the show’s recent Grand Reunion special got him in trouble with his new girlfriend.

In an Instagram Q&A with fans, the former electrician said that comments he made about wanting to kiss his TV ex Heidi upset his real life squeeze, Sonja Marcelline.

‘I got into heaps of trouble,’ the 45-year-old said.

‘That just came out, and a little bit of clever editing and it just made it look worse,’ he added.

Awkward: In an Instagram Q&A with fans, Mike said that comments he made about wanting to kiss his ex-‘wife’ Heidi Latcham upset his real life squeeze, Sonja Marcelline

In a recent interview, Mike disclosed his deepest regret from the show, which was filmed in 2019.

He said that he wishes he could have taken back a comment where he suggested ‘men handle pressure better than women,’ as he admitted it came across as a ‘stab at gender’.

Mike and Heidi’s passionate yet chequered romance had seen the couple lock horns on a number of occasions, with Heidi frequently left hurt by his words.

After facing many roadblocks during their relationship due to communication, or lack thereof, the pair decided to go their separate ways.

Despite receiving a general warm and positive reaction, Mike was criticised for failing to listen to Heidi and for allegedly shutting her down when she tried to broach emotional topics of discussion.

While reflecting on the experience with OK! Magazine, Mike said he was just being himself, but admitted that there were moments when he would ‘flare up’ at remarks made by other contestants on the show.

He has since moved on with Sonja Marcelline who he met on the dating app Bumble, and he confessed to the publication that things are ‘going really well’.
